Water is a precious resource and should always be used wisely.
- a deep watering 2-3 times a week, done in the early morning or evening, is most effective.
- a steady soak at ground level is much better for the plant than spraying a mist over the leaves.
- mulch around your garden to reduce water loss, and keep it free from weeds.
- some plants needs less water than others. If water is an issue, think carefully about what you are planting and how much water it will need. Some vegetables that require lots of water are lettuce, cauliflower, celery, cabbage. However tomatoes, pumpkins, capsicum, peas and others can tolerate drier conditions.
At the garden it is imperative that taps are turned off completely when you are finished watering. The hoses are not designed to withstand prolonged high pressure, and it is likely that the water pressure may “blow off” hose fittings, resulting in considerable water loss.
